Ciudad Real is located in the center of Spain, south of the capital, Madrid. The Puerta de Toledo is one of the symbols of the city, as well as one of its original gates, which has been preserved since the 12th century and is of Mudejar style. In the city is the Don Quixote Museum, which is dedicated to the classic novel by Miguel de Cervantes. The cathedral of Santa María del Prado, from the 13th century, has a large nave and a very ornate baroque altarpiece.
